Howard Beckett
Howard Beckett is a British trade union official and solicitor, and a former Assistant General Secretary of Unite the Union, one of the largest trade unions in the United Kingdom; by profession a solicitor, he joined Unite in 2011, led its legal department, and in 2016 entered the senior leadership as a close ally of Len McCluskey; he is associated with left-wing, trade union–socialist views, supported Jeremy Corbyn and criticized the more moderate course of Keir Starmer, advocating for a stronger role for trade unions and collective worker action; in 2021 he ran for the position of Unite General Secretary but later withdrew, and in 2022–2023 he became involved in internal investigations and subsequently left the organization.
